The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. in cooperation with Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark will be hosting public youth beach volleyball events in July and August, 2021. The club will also host their yearly Grass Volleyball Festival in Cambridge Ontario in August.

In 2019, they had over 400 registered in their outdoor beach volleyball programs. The club has been hosting public youth volleyball tournaments for eight years at Emerald Lake Campground and Waterpark. In the last two years the club has invested over $200,000. in upgrading the beach courts on the north shore of the lake. The courts now have Olympic quality beach sand. The club has also hosted Canada’s largest youth grass volleyball tournament in Cambridge Ontario since 2014. It features a competitive 4 on 4 division and a recreational 6 on 6 division format. Scorpions Announce Adult Volleyball in Cambridge and Ayr. The club is happy to support healthy activities for adults playing beach volleyball.
In Ayr, Ontario it will be Wednesday nights at the North Dumfries Community Complex outside. It is open to all area residences. In Cambridge, Ontario it will be on Tuesday nights at Riverside Park sand courts. It is open to all present/former players parents and their friends only. Cost is $50. for 7 weeks, starts in July. Press Release – May 14th, 2021 - Cambridge, ON. - The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club Inc. is one of the largest and fastest growing youth beach volleyball clubs in Canada. This year, the club is celebrating 10yrs of providing youth beach volleyball programs to the public. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has had a working relationship with Emerald Lake Waterpark to use their 12 sand courts for the last seven years. Six of the courts were renovated in 2020. The final six beach courts will be significantly renovated adding drainage and bringing in Olympic quality sand. The club has been a recipient of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help partially fund the renovation of the final six beach volleyball courts located at the back of Emerald Lake Waterpark. The Scorpions have a lease with Emerald Lake to take maintain and utilize the facilities for their youth tournaments that are open to the public and for the Scorpions Beach program training programs. The courts will be built by C.O. Construction of Cambridge. Paul Langan, President of the Scorpions states, "With the completion of the renovation of the Emerald Lake courts, it will be the premier location for public youth beach volleyball tournaments in Ontario. A beautiful, scenic, fun location unparalleled in Ontario. It is the largest indoor and beach volleyball club in the Waterloo Region. The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club expanded into Ayr two years ago. The response has been fantastic. There currently are no sand volleyball courts in the Township of North Dumfries. To support the growth of beach volleyball club in the community the courts are being built. The club has been a recipient of a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation Resilient Communities Fund to help partially fund the building three beach volleyball courts at the North Dumfries Community Complex. WHO CAN PLAY? Age Category Chronological Age Class 12U Born 2008 or later 13U Born 2007 or later 14U Born 2006 or later 15U Born 2005 or later 16U Born 2004 or later NOTE: To ensure we do our part in ensuring the pandemic is kept in check the first event, August 15th, 2020 is limited to duos in the Waterloo Region, Guelph and Wellington County. We will reassess these geographical restrictions August 16th,2020 before the 2nd Scrimmage Days registration begins WHEN WILL THE SCRIMMAGE DAYS & AGE GROUPS? The first three Scorpions Scrimmage Days are: August 15th, 22nd and 29th, 2020. Further dates will be added in September based on the pandemic situation. August 15 - AM- 12U, 13U, PM - 14U, 15U August 22 - AM 13U , 14U, PM, 15U, 16U August 29 - AM 12U-13U, PM, 14U, 16U WHERE WILL THE SCRIMMAGE DAYS TAKE PLACE? The first three Scrimmage Days events August 15th, 22nd, 29th will take place at the Emerald Lake Waterpark and Trailer Park. It is located at 7248 Gore Rd, Puslinch, ON N0B 2J0. It is a pretty special place. Here is a video of it from a couple years ago. (before we renovated half of the courts). The courts are right beside the lake. You do NOT pay the waterpark prices. You pay only $10.00 per car to enter to go to the sand courts which is located behind the waterpark. WHAT IS THE FORMAT? Each day will consist of two waves (AM/PM wave). The AM wave start at 8:45AM and the PM wave will start at 1:00PM. We will email you the courts and duos assignment. All teams will be randomly assigned to a pool of 3 or 4. All teams will play a maximum of 3 matches. Pools of 3 will play 2 matches, 3 sets each to 21 points or 50 minute rounds, whichever comes first. Pools of 4 will play 3 matches, 2 sets each to 21 points or 35 minute rounds, whichever comes first. Side switches will take place between sets. Two 15-minute recovery breaks will be provided between matches Matches will also be self-refereed and teams are required to keep their own scores during play; All age specific beach volleyball rules apply except there is no switching of sides during the match. WHAT ARE THE SAFETY PROTOCOLS IN PLACE DURING THIS PANDEMIC? The Scorpions Youth Volleyball Club has developed a separate document that all people registered or working at the Scrimmage Days must follow. Anyone not following these protocols will risk being removed from the event.
